11/30/09: Visions for Hawai'i

RESULTS OF THE SURVEY 11/30/2009 - 12/6/09

This week's survey contained five questions concerning people's visions for the future of Hawai'i and asked questions regarding our progress towards their vision.

Highlights

Forty four percent of respondents selected "Economic Achievement" as the single most important element of their preferred future for Hawai'i.  Next, "Family Well Being" was selected by 31%.  Only 6% identified "Environmental Preservation" as most important, behind "Global Role."

88% said that Hawai'i is not moving towards their preferred future.

Of those that said that Hawai'i is not moving toward their preferred future, 43% identified the "Education System" as the institutional impediment most responsible for holding Hawai'i back from their preferred future.  The second largest institutional impediment was "Lack of Leadership", with 38%.  Overall in the poll, roughly 38% of all respondents felt that the "Education System" is an impediment to realizing their preferred future for the state.

Respondent answers to the question, "Which of the following would be most helpful in accelerating Hawai'i towards your preferred future," were more evenly distributed.  Twenty five percent each identified "Business Leadership" and "Community Leadership" as most helpful, while 19% each selected "Government Policy and Law" and "Public Education or Interest."
