Richard A. K. Lum, PhD
Chief executive officer
Dr. Lum is a professionally trained futurist with training and expertise in futures studies, strategy formulation, and planning process design. Some of his professional interests include the futures of governance, global conflict, health care, and industrialism. He delivers speeches and presentations to organizations ranging from the World Future Society to the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and has been published in the Journal of Futures Studies and the journal Futures.
He served for several years as the Strategic Planner for the Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA), the Blue Cross Blue Shield licensee for the state of Hawai‘i. He is the co-curator for the 10 Conference, held annually in Washington state. Dr. Lum has served on the boards of organizations such as People Attentive to Children (PATCH) and the Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce and currently serves on the O'ahu Workforce Investment Board and serves as the board president of I Ola Lahui. He is a Salzburg Global Seminar fellow from the 2007 Global Young Leaders Summit.
He is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools, has a Masters degree in Political Science with a specialization in Alternative Futures from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, and holds a PhD in Political Science focusing on the issue of designing governance systems.

Darci Arnold, San Jose, CA
Marketing
Darci Arnold is a consultant specializing in leading firms toward 21st century competitive advantage and top-line revenue growth. Her expertise is in strategic business development and leadership, marketing and sales, organizational structure and cultural change, and in uniting diverse stakeholders through customized value propositions. Ms. Arnold is a USGBC LEED Accredited Professional focused on sustainability and multiple bottom-line strategies (financial, environmental, and social). She has an extensive professional background with over 20 years in the global high-tech storage industry, most recently as the first Vice President of Global Marketing at Seagate Technology. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Master’s in Corporate Sustainability from San Jose State University. She has been a faculty member at the Salzburg Global Seminar since 2007.
Michele Bowman, Boston, MA
Business Development
Ms. Bowman is a professionally trained futurist who co-founded AndSpace Consulting after 14 years as the co-founder and Managing Director of Global Foresight Associates. Her work focuses on helping organizations understand the strategic implications of trends and emerging issues affecting the future of business and society. Recent engagements include presentations to Nissan, UBS, IIR’s Trend Conference, Fidelity Bank, South by Southwest (SXSW), Babson College, the Conference Board, Harvard Business School, the Medical Library Association, and the World Future Society. She is frequently quoted in the media including Wired magazine, Fox TV News, Capital Times, the Boston Globe and the London Times, and has been featured in Fast Company magazine. Ms. Bowman is the former Chairman and current Executive Director of the Association of Professional Futurists and president of the Boston Chapter of the World Future Society. She is a board advisor to several non-profit organizations including the Solar Electric Light Fund and the Pop!Tech Institute. Ms. Bowman earned a Masters Degree from University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, one of only two schools in the country to offer an advanced degree in Futures Studies.
Garry Golden, Brooklyn, NY
Research
Mr. Golden is a professionally trained futurist who writes, speaks, and consults on issues shaping society and business in the 21st century. He has worked with organizations such as the Association of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), IBM Almaden/US Army, Oregon Department of Transportation, Texas Department of Transportation, Public Service Utility of New Hampshire, PTIS/DuPoint, Wachovia, Sepracor, McGraw-Hill, and Xcel Energy. He teaches on The Future of Energy & Environment through the University of Houston Futures Program, was the founding editor of TheEnergyRoadmap.com, and is a frequent quest analyst on the national radio show The Takeaway. He is co-author of Designing Your Future (2008) and has co-written several business white papers including the Future of the Social Web and the Future of Green as a Business Strategy. Mr. Golden holds a Master's degree from the University of Houston Futures Studies program.
Matthew Lorin, Kapolei, Hawai'i
Democracy Building, Public Diplomacy, and Civic Engagement
Mr. Lorin has served as a senior advisor to corporations, non-governmental organizations, governments and multi-lateral institutions, including the United Nations, U.S. Department of State, and the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He served as Global Head of Strategic Communications for Caspian Securities, an emerging markets investment bank with 13 offices in 10 emerging markets. Mr. Lorin was a Director on President Clinton's National Security Council Staff in the Office of Multi-lateral and Humanitarian Affairs. He was Founder and Executive Director of SHARE, the Student Human Rights Exchange. Mr. Lorin serves on Education for Public Inquiry and International Citizenship at Tufts University. He is a Leadership Fellow at the Institute for Global Leadership and participates in working groups on civil-military affairs and the delivery of humanitarian assistance in complex emergencies. He is a member of the National Policy Roundtable, and serves as Amnesty International's Government Affairs Director for Hawai'i. He is a graduate of Tufts University and the Kennedy School of Government.
Christopher Mehigan, Dublin, Ireland
Public Diplomacy and Political Communication
Christopher Mehigan is a Political Communications advisor and advocate from Ireland. Building on five years of professional experience as legal counsel to large companies operating in Europe and the United States, Christopher has focussed his professional development on his work representing interests at a political level, with Public Diplomacy and Political Communication as his areas of expertise. Mr. Mehigan is a member of the New York Bar since 2004, he holds a degree in Irish law, a diploma in Public Relations from the Public Relations Institute of Ireland, and has a Masters Degree in Public Affairs and Political Communications.
Wendy Schultz, PhD, Oxford, England
Training
Dr. Schultz is a professionally trained futurist with over twenty-five years of foresight practice all around the world. She recently completed a scenario project focused on England’s natural environment to 2060, and worked with the UK Foresight Programme’s Land Use Futures Project on foresight methods. Dr. Schultz has also provided emerging issues analyses and scenario explorations for the UK Health and Safety Executive, the UK Environment Agency, the Food Ethics Council, UK’s Local Government Association, the UK National Policing Improvement Agency, and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Her current work includes scenario building with a Fortune 500 food-and-beverage company; an EU project on foresight methods for higher education planning (Romania); and creating an innovative crowd-sourced approach to evolving scenarios, working in partnership with Cognitive Edge (UK) and MIT (USA). Dr. Schultz is a Fellow of the World Futures Studies Federation, a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures, and Commerce, and she holds a PhD in Alternative Futures from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. |
